For the past decade, Côte d'Ivoire benefited from unprecedented support from the international community, especially the United Nations, notably with regard to the restoration of state authority, security sector and judicial reform, as well as social cohesion and national reconciliation. The engagement of the country's highest authorities and the Ivorian people has allowed the country to emerge from the crisis animated by an ambitious vision for the future driven by a revitalized economy, institutional reforms, and a focus on emergence. The present collection of essays, published by UNDP with support from the European Union and Japan, captures some of the lessons learned from post-crisis recovery in Côte d'Ivoire. It focuses specifically on the strategic vision and institutional reforms implemented under the leadership of the president and the government, while bringing to the fore innovations on community security, human rights, social cohesion, national reconciliation and peace consolidation. This publication is the outcome of a joint endeavor bringing together senior government officials, elected representatives, representatives of civil society and experienced United Nations system practitioners. It makes a strong case for inclusive approaches and integrated multidimensional post-crisis recovery mechanisms.
